7th Apr 10 I have a smart 451 cdi, 45bhp purchased in September 2009 and have been considering some sort of remap for some time. I did some homework (mostly in the various smart forums) and narrowed my choice down to a BIG remap, a Tunit box or a similar box from DTE. I can appreciate that a remap is technically the better solution, but in the end, given that my car was so new, I decided on a box. I was going to go for Tunit, but when I contacted the nearest garage where the work could be done, I was met with the advice that they couldn’t recommend it for a car still under warranty, and in any case the cost was going to be over £500. On the recommendation of Rob, from smart Wolverhampton, I rang Andrew, MD of DTE-UK who couldn’t have been more helpful. He talked me through what the DTE boxes do and put me in touch with a local fitter. He also recommended that i consider a DTUK box since they are the same as DTE but just rebranded. So I went ahead and had the box fitted last week. The local garage in Old Dalby, Melton Mowbray was excellent. They took time to place the box in the best location in the engine compartment and made a very neat job. The box I bought was a CRD2 which allows the user to change programs in a range from economy to performance. I asked for the box to be set for economy, which still gives a pretty decent effective boost to bhp and torque. The total cost for supply and fitting inc VAT was around £380. It feels like I have a new car!! It is beautifully smooth, acceleration is amazingdriving uphill has to be experienced to be believedit feels far better than my old smart 451 71bhp model. When I relax a little and drive for economy I can see how it is going to help those mpg figures. It gets into fifth gear much earlier than before and changes down much later and is so smooth (did I say that before?!). The beauty of this for me is that if necessary I can whip off the box and the engine is back to how it was. I emailed Andrew at DTUK last Monday evening to ask if he recommended I drive the car hard during the first couple of days. He texted back within a couple of minutes to say I should drive it normally and the box would learn about the engine, injectors etc. in due course. He also suggested I ring him in a couple of weeks and he would talk me through the various programs. I must say that out of Tunit, DTE/DTUK and BIG, DTUK has been the most helpfulby far. I contacted BIG about three times, through PM and message on their website and got zero response. taken from: http://www.smartmaniacs.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=60182
