13th Jul 06 Andy, As you know, I have fitted a DTUK Green unit to my Land Rover Freelander TD4 automatic, with the main intent of improving caravan towing capability in the mountains. The DTUK unit arrived by special delivery the day after I ordered it, the fitting took me about 20 minutes, including strapping up the box and the wires. The next stage was to turn on the ignition key and clench my various bits to actually fire it up. Guess what, it started and ran absolutely normallyno pain at all. Here comes the tricky bitto take it out for a test drive. All I can say is that it ”does what it says on the tin”. If you want to poodle along, no difference to standard tune. If you wan to to bury your toe in the carpet, you get a push in the back and a bit of a snarl. Not an Aston Martin you understand, but smooth and satisfying. Towing performance and general driveability is significantly improved thanks to the higher torque at lower revs. The automatic transmission acts perfectly normally and very well, showing no variance of shift quality due to the power and torque change. The adjustment dial was set at about one ‘oclock, but I had a bit of a play and it seemed to be slightly better at about twelve o’clock. I have left it at that for now, but might have another play later, in particular when I have got a bit more towing performance experience under the wheels. A handy hint. I strapped the unit to the wiring loom leading from the back of the headlights on the passenger side, and in front of the battery box. This is a clean and cool location, and the wires provide a vibration free secure mount, allowing for the adjustment face on the end to be upturned for easy adjustment. Having thought about it a little more, I may go back to the same location but wrap it in sponge such that the straps are isolated from the box, and the sponge gives a little more anti-vibration protection. I know that this may be a bit OTT, but for a few minutes it will be worthwhile. Thanks to you at DTUK for your friendly assistance, and in particular thanks to John of the ”Diesel Talk” web site for providing invaluable guidance leading up to my selection and purchase. Please keep me informed of any further interesting new developments that might come through your organisation. Regards, Vince, Macclesfield, Cheshire
