RForum.co.uk 2nd Oct 14 Another #VW #GOLF #R Review from a customer using our warranty safe FSR Petrol Performance system. So I’ll cut to the point without any buildup. The DTUK Tuning box is good. I ordered it at around 2pm on 30/10/14 and it arrived the next day. First impressions were good. The BoxThe box itself is a cast alloy construction with an end-plate thick seal, the end plate being held on with 4x Torx head bolts. LoomThe wiring loom is of OEM quality with the cable being protected by a sleeve. All of the connectors are very similar to the OEM connectors and fit perfectly. InstructionsUnlike IKEA, you really must follow the instructions as there is one plug in particular that can cause an issue if connected the wrong way round. A large warning label highlights the plug in question. InstallationReally easy. The only issue being the removal of the tray underneath the engine, but that’s not DTUK’s fault and its only held on with a few torx anyway and can be removed without raising the car. Its only when you try to find a home for the module that you realise how tight the 7R’s engine bay is. I currently have the module located to the left of the air box. Cable ties are included with the kit. Test DriveThe tuning box comes with numerous maps. Map 3-2. The boxes are supplied by DTUK on map 3-2. This map, although an improvement over the OEM map, is largely uneventful. A quick call to Andrew@DTUK who told me to open the box and move the ‘jumper’ one position to the right to change over to map 3-3. Map 3-3. That’s more like it! Map 3-3 retains the OEM characteristic, you just get even more of the same. The torque and delivery are identical to the OEM map as the power is linear and relentless, building to a very nice shove at 4500rpm. Throttle – The DTUK box does not and cannot change the throttle map. However, I find that the various driving modes provide more than enough adjustability. EconomyOn the days that I do take the car to work I normally just cruise along at sub-60mph on a mixture of A roads and motorway driving. I normally achieve 40mpg in the 7R. This morning with the DTUK box connected I achieved 40mpg. Verdict ECO Mode – There is a noticeable additional amount of torque even in ECO model. You can drive around all day long under 2000rpm like a large capacity V8. You can even let the engine revs drop to sub-1000 in 3rd and it still accelerates no problem whatsoever. Normal Mode – As above, a larger amount of torque which is blissful for everyday driving. Race Mode – This is where the magic happens! The DTUK box combined with the Race throttle map is superb. There is a massive difference between the 3-2 and 3-3 maps. If you are running a lease-hire and/or wish to retain your VW warranty then I would suggest that this is a perfect partnership with its easy of removal. I bought this prior to the release of the APR Stage 1 map. In all honesty, the APR map will have to be exceptional to better the improvements already made by the DTUK box. And with the RForum ‘RF80’ discount code, it’s an extremely reasonable outlay. DTUK Andrew at DTUK seems exceptionally committed to customer service and took time with me to explain the various settings. taken from http://www.rforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=7244 #golfr #petroltuning #goplaywithoutwarrantyissues
